Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: Checked against primary legislation on legislation.gov.uk

Know Your Rights UK is free to use and always will be. To help cover the cost of running the site, some pages include a small number of affiliate links to paid services, for example online will-writing providers. This page explains exactly what that means, and the rules we hold ourselves to.

Key points
  • Our guidance is free and independent, affiliate links never change what we advise.
  • We always show the genuinely free or DIY route first.
  • Every paid link is clearly labelled 'Ad' and marked as a sponsored link.
  • We only earn if you choose to buy, and it never costs you any more.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a special tracking link to another company's website. If you click it and go on to buy something, that company pays us a small commission. It makes no difference to the price you pay, it is exactly the same as if you had gone to them directly.

We use the Awin affiliate network to manage these links and report on them.

How we keep it honest

We hold ourselves to a few firm rules:

  • Free first, we always explain the free, DIY or government route before mentioning any paid service.
  • Independence, we only feature a paid service if we'd be comfortable suggesting it without any commission. The commission never changes our guidance, our ranking, or what we say about a provider.
  • Clear labelling, every affiliate link sits inside a box marked 'Ad', and the link itself is tagged as a sponsored link.
  • No pressure, there's no paywall and nothing you have to buy. The guidance is complete on its own.
  • Relevance, we only place a paid recommendation where it genuinely helps, such as an online will service on our wills pages.

Where you'll see affiliate links

At the moment, affiliate links appear only on some of our wills pages, where an online will-writing service can be a sensible option once you understand your free choices.

Making a will doesn't have to cost anything if your situation is simple, you can write one yourself if you follow the witnessing rules. Start with our free Will Planner and how to make a will guide. A paid service is there only if you'd prefer the reassurance of a guided, checked process.
